DUNNING HELPS DASH CLINCH SWEEP

Right-hander Dane Dunning took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and the Dash offense provided more than enough support as Winston-Salem earned a 9-0 victory on Wednesday over Myrtle Beach to clinch a series sweep at TicketReturn.Com Field at Pelicans Ballpark. Dunning had his no-hit bid broken up by Pelicans right fielder Chris Pieters with one out in the seventh. The former Gator finished his outing going 6.1 innings, allowing just two hits while striking out en route to his first win of the season. At the plate, the Dash set a season-high with nine runs scored. Luis Basabe led the Winston-Salem attack with three hits on the night, finishing 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

REIGNING SUPREME ATOP THE CL

Through seven games, the Dash offense has staked their claim as the best in the circuit. The team currently leads the Carolina League in hits (69), doubles (16), batting average (.297), on-base percentage (.375) and slugging percentage (.422). Meanwhile, the Dash outhit the Carolina Mudcats and Myrtle Beach Pelicans in each of the seven combined games they played.

AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED

The Dash's opening road trip saw several players break out. Here were the top performances from the seven-game swing:

OF Micker Adolfo: 10-for-27 (.370), 4 2Bs, 6RBIs

OF Joel Booker: 8-for-20 (.400), HR, six runs scored; tied for second in the CL in average

OF Luis Basabe: 10-for-25 (.400), 2B, 2 3Bs, 5 RBIs; tied for second with Booker in the CL for average

INF Mitch Roman: 6-for-16 (.375), two runs scored, HR, RBI; five-game hitting streak

HOME SWEET HOME

The Dash kick off home play in 2018 with a four-game series against the Carolina Mudcats on Thursday. Since moving to BB&T Ballpark in 2010, the Dash boast a 309-252 (.558) home record, though the club did post its second straight losing record at the downtown facility a year ago (34-37). Winston-Salem is 3-5 all-time in home openers, most recently picking up a 7-1 win against Buies Creek last year.

ANOTHER HOMECOMING

Dash first baseman Gavin Sheets will make his return to Winston-Salem after starring with the Wake Forest Demon Deacons for three seasons. A former second-round pick by the White Sox in 2017, Sheets was a two-time All-ACC honoree with the Deacs. During his junior season, Sheets hit 21 home runs (second-most in program history) and led collegiate baseball with 84 RBIs. The last time Sheets played in Winston-Salem was on June 4, 2017, when the Demon Deacons earned a 12-8 victory over West Virginia in the NCAA Regional to advance to the NCAA Super Regional, where they eventually bowed out the eventual national champion Florida Gators.

SPEAKING OF FORMER DEACS...

The Winston-Salem Dash announced on Tuesday that nine-time NBA All-Star and two-time Gold Medalist Chris Paul will become part of the team's ownership group. Born in Winston-Salem, Paul graduated from West Forsyth High School in nearby Clemmons and attended Wake Forest University. Currently with the Houston Rockets, Paul has been named to the All-NBA First Team four times in his career.

OFF TO A GOOD START

Along with its stellar offense, Winston-Salem's rotation has been strong so far. Dash starters are 3-2 with a 2.35 ERA (8ER in 30.2 IP) in seven outings. Thursday's starter Bernardo Flores posted a quality start against Carolina on Friday, earning a win by going six innings and allowing two earned runs.

DASH DOTS

Seven of the White Sox top 15 prospects per MLB Pipeline have been placed on Winston-Salem's Opening Day roster. Outfielder Luis Robert (third), who is on the disabled list, highlights this group. Joining Robert on this list is right-hander Dylan Cease (fifth), Dunning (sixth), outfielder Blake Rutherford (seventh), Adolfo (10th), Sheets (11th) and Basabe (13th).
