Indianapolis Ice News Release

FIVE'S A CROWD: With victories in both games last week, the Ice kept pace with the four playoff-contending teams in the Northern Conference. The five-team group consisting of Indy, Memphis, Oklahoma City, Tulsa and Amarillo went 10-3-0 last week keeping the Northern Conference race tight. Indianapolis, who is 11-2-0 in its last 13 games, has the best winning percentage (.681) of the five squads and still has multiple games in hand with Memphis, Oklahoma City and Tulsa. In addition, the Ice has enjoyed success in the head to head meetings with the four teams as the Icemen owns a 10-3-4 record in the 17 contests so far this season.

DEFENSIVE JUGGERNAUT: The defensive pairs of Bernie John-Kevin Popp, Ryan Aikia-Nate Elliott and Scott Lewis-Byron Pool and the goaltending duo of Shawn Silver and Jamie Morris have been the catalysts for the team's 18-5-0 stretch that started on 11/22/02 when the team had a record of 4-4-5. The eight-man crew have formed a defensive juggernaut that ranks second in the CHL in goals allowed/game (2.36) and has allowed its opponents only three goals or less in 21 of the team's last 23 games. In addition, the defense has been up to the task in the closely-contested affairs this year as the Ice sports a 10-1-5 clip in one-goal games this season.

SILVER LOOKOUT: After going 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and a .963 save percentage last weekend, all-star goaltender Shawn Silver is now 9-1-0 with a 1.84 GAA and .929 save percentage in his last ten outings between the pipes. He enters this week's play second in the CHL in GAA (1.80) and save percentage (.933) and tied for third in wins (17) and shutouts (3).

FRESH FROM THE OVEN: Andrew Taylor led the Ice in scoring last weekend with four points (2G, 2A)...The line of Taylor-Randy Holmes-Jared Dumba combined for seven points (2G, 5A) and a (+12) plus/minus in Saturday's win over Odessa...Kevin St. Jacques has 11 points (1G, 10A) in his last six games...Jason Baird has nine points (3G, 6A) in his last six games...All-star d-man Bernie John has eight points (4G, 4A) in his last six games.

TEAM NOISE: The Ice is 12-0-4 against the Northwest Division this year and a combined 8-0-2 mark against this weeks' opponents, Tulsa (3-0-2) and Wichita (5-0-0)...The Ice has outscored its foes 35-24 in the first period of games this year and is 17-3-1 when scoring the first goal of the game...Indy is tied for first in the CHL in fewest home losses (2) and tied for second in most road wins (11).

WEEKEND OF RACING AND MUSIC: Tomas Scheckter of Chip Ganassi Racing and an IRL show car will be part of this Fridays' festivities when the team hosts the Wichita Thunder at 7:00 p.m. from Conseco Fieldhouse. The show car will be on display at the game, while Scheckter will sign autographs during the second period. The Katinas, a Christian rock act composed of five brothers from the islands of American Samoa, will be performing in a pre-game concert this Saturday before the Ice's 7:00 contest with the Thunder at the Pepsi Coliseum.
