Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

MUDBUGS DENIED IN OKLAHOMA CITY – The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs began a three-game road trip on Thursday night with their third and final visit to the Ford Center in Oklahoma City. After a scoreless first period, which featured 13 saves by Blazer goaltender Boyd Ballard, Oklahoma City struck first with a power play goal from Peter Arvanitis. Later in the second, Tyler Fleck scored on a slap shot to increase the Oklahoma City lead to 2-0. In the third period, the Mudbugs were given the chance to mount a comeback with four straight power play chances. Chad Spurr opened the scoring for the Bugs at 16:24 of the third with assists from Trevor Buchanan and Jim Sprott. Bossier-Shreveport battled until the final seconds of regulation, but the Blazers prevailed 2-1. Ken Carroll suffered the loss for the Mudbugs despite making 30 saves.

TENTH CONSECUTIVE LOSS HANDED TO FT. WORTH – The Mudbugs battled the team with the worst record in the CHL on Friday and came away with a 3-1 victory, their second win of the year in the Fort Worth Convention Center. Jason Campbell started the scoring in the second period with his 13th goal of the season. In the third, Forbes MacPherson one-timed a Dan Wildfong pass into the net to beat Brahmas netminder Matt Mullin for his 11th goal of the year. With six minutes left in the game, however, Rob Giffin made things interesting with a one-timer to give Fort Worth its first goal. But the Mudbugs stifled the Brahmas with a strong defensive effort in the final minutes and Forbes MacPherson added his second goal of the game into an empty net to give the Bugs a 3-1 win. Bossier-Shreveport goaltender Ken Carroll recorded his tenth win of the year by making 26 saves.

MEMPHIS HOLDS ON AGAINST THE BUGS – In their third consecutive road game, the Mudbugs finished their weekend trip with their tenth meeting of the year against the Memphis RiverKings. Memphis recorded two first period goals, one shorthanded and one on the power play, to take an early 2-0 lead. The Mudbugs battled back to tie the game with goals from Dru Burgess and Jason Campbell in the second period, but the RiverKings recorded three straight tallies immediately afterward, including two from Don Parsons. Bossier-Shreveport owned the next two goals of the game (scored by Jim Sprott and David Oliver), but Rob Palahnuk scored the eventual game-winner at 8:59 of the third period. Despite giving up a goal to Chris Brassard later in the third, the RiverKings held on for a 6-5 win. Carroll and Jonathan Forest split the duties in net with Forest suffering the loss, despite allowing just one goal in the final period.
