CHL Awards Emersic, Silver

Lubbock right winger Blaz Emersic and Indianapolis netminder Shawn Silver have been selected as the recipients of the Central Hockey League's Player and Goaltender of the Week awards for Week 13 of the CHL season. Emersic joins teammate Mike Brusseau (CHL Goaltender of the Week in Week 5) as Cotton King award recipients this season, while Silver earns his fourth such distinction this year after already being named CHL Goaltender of the Week in Weeks 4,7 and 8.

Emersic, selected to start at forward for the Southern Conference in the upcoming Dodge CHL All-Star game on January 23rd in Oklahoma City, scored six points in leading Lubbock to a pair of wins this past week. In a 5-1 win over San Angelo January 10th, the native of Ljubljana, Slovenia assisted on two goals. The following night, Emersic scored twice and added an assist in regulation play, then completed his hat-trick by scoring the game winning goal in a 5-4 shootout win over New Mexico. Emersic leads the Cotton Kings in virtually every offensive category this season, including goals (18), assists (27), points (45) and plus/minus (+16).

Ice goaltender Silver has played a crucial role in Indianapolis' resurgence this season, and his consistent play has his club atop the Northern Conference with a .681 winning percentage. This week, the Thunder Bay, Ontario native claimed wins in both his starts, allowing a single goal against in each contest. January 10th, he turned aside 30 shots in a 2-1 win at Wichita, then made 22 saves the following night in a 5-1 home victory over Odessa. Silver's dependable play his among CHL leading goaltenders in nearly every significant category, including wins (17), shutouts (3), goals against average (1.806) and save percentage (93.3). Silver has also been selected to represent the Ice and the Northern Conference in the 2003 Dodge CHL All-Star Game.
