Sanford Mainers News Release
LACONIA, N.H. - Though they led early in Laconia, the Muskrats (4-6) attacked the Sanford Mainers (5-5) bullpen and pulled out a tight, 8-7 victory.
The Muskrats came back from multiple deficits a few times, capped off by a five-run 6th inning in their comeback attempt.
Trailing 6-3 in the bottom of the 6th, Anthony Maselli (Boston College) hit a two run home run to right field to make it a 6-5 game. Two singles and walk later, a wild pitch brought in an additional run to tie the game. Two more singles from Jon Ortega (Texas State) and Ryan Stekl (Canisus) brought in another pair of runs to make it 8-6, a lead the Muskrats would not relinquish.
Sanford, not content to go quietly however, threatened in the 7th. Tristan Chari (Vanderbilt) reached base on an error, and Dan Wilson (UNC Asheville) followed him with a walk to put two men on. C.J. Krowiak (Binghamton) pinch hit for Johnny Slater (Michigan), and drove a base hit into center field with two men away to score one run. Wilson, who got a good jump from second base on the single rounded third and was cut down at the plate to end the rally by Grant Meylan (Santa Clara). Meylan threw a strike from dead center field to end the last true Mainers offensive threat.
Sanford got a short, but solid start out of Cole Townsend (Arkansas Little Rock) who went four innings, and allowed two hits, an earned run, a walk and set down five by way of the strikeout. In all, the Mainers bullpen would tagged with eight hits and seven runs in four innings of relief work.
For the second game in a row, the Mainers had 10 hits and for the second time in three games they scored at least seven runs. Shaine Hughes (Southern Maine) and Todd Czinge (Villanova) both had two hit performances for the Mainers on and combined for three RBI's.
The Mainers get back to it Tuesday, June 21 when they host the Valley Blue Sox in their first visit of the season to Goodall Park. The broadcast can be found on the NECBL Broadcast Network with the pregame show beginning at 6:15 PM and first pitch set for 6:30 PM.
