Texas AirHogs News Release
GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - The Texas AirHogs dropped another tight game vs. the Winnipeg Goldeyes Tuesday at AirHogs Stadium. Texas brought a 3-2 lead to the eighth but could not withstand a late charge from Winnipeg. The Goldeyes scored three unanswered in the eighth and ninth for a 5-3 win.
RHP Sun Jianzeng (0-1) started for the AirHogs and pitched well over 4.1 innings. Aside from a pair of runs in the second, he held the opposing bats at bay. The righty struck out two and walked one while surrendering three hits and two runs (two earned).
After boarding three without scoring in the first, the AirHogs broke through in the third on a three-run home run by left fielder Dillon Thomas. The opposite field shot to left center was the first for the AirHogs as a team this season. It came off of Winnipeg starter Alex Boshers, who worked through trouble all day on his way to 5.2 innings of ten-hit, three-run ball and a no-decision. He was relieved by Kenny Matthews, who finished the sixth before firing a scoreless seventh to get in line for the win.
In the eighth, the Goldeyes got to Taylor Wright for a pair of runs. Kevin Garcia led the inning off with a single, and, after advancing on a sacrifice bunt, scored on a balk. Andrew Sohn would later score on an RBI single by Reynaldo Rodriguez to give Winnipeg the 4-3 lead.
The Fish expanded the advantage in the ninth on a solo homer by Grant Hayman off Ran Song. The AirHogs were unable to launch a final comeback effort vs. closer Victor Capellan, who picked up his second save of the series by posting a zero in the ninth.
Texas (1-4) and Winnipeg (3-2) will meet again tomorrow at 11:05 a.m. RHP Miguel Rosario (0-0, 0.00 ERA), who has just been activated from the DL, is expected to start for the AirHogs vs. RHP Charle Rosario (0-0, 0.00 ERA) for Winnipeg.
The AirHogs - powered by Beijing Shougang Eagles, close the first six-game homestand of the year tomorrow but return home Monday to start a series vs. the St. Paul Saints.
