
RailCats Activate LHP Jeff McKenzie from DL; Sign RHP Adam Quintana

GARY, Ind. - Gary SouthShore RailCats left-handed pitcher Jeff McKenzie was activated from the 7-day Disabled List ahead of Tuesday night's game against the Kansas City T-Bones in Kansas City. McKenzie will start Tuesday night's game. To make room on the roster, right-handed pitcher Sam Myers was placed on the 7-day Disabled List with a bruised right forearm.
Additionally, the RailCats have signed right-handed pitcher Adam Quintana and added him to the active roster.
The 27-year-old McKenzie begins his second year with the RailCats. In 2017, he pitched in 14 games (11 starts), going 4-4 with a 3.72 ERA. He pitched 77.1 innings and allowed 80 hits and 17 walks while striking out 42 hitters. He spent 2016 with the Lincoln Saltdogs, going 5-4 with a 4.32 ERA over 30 games (seven starts).
McKenzie was originally drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 28th round of the 2013 MLB Draft out of Cal State-Bakersfield, pitching two seasons in the White Sox organization and reaching as high as Low-A.
26-year-old Adam Quintana joins the RailCats after pitching for the Lake Erie Crushers in 2017. He was 4-4 with a 4.37 ERA in 10 starts with Lake Erie, allowing 51 hits and 24 walks, while striking out 50 batters in 55.1 innings.
Quintana was originally signed by the Texas Rangers as an undrafted free agent out of Peru State University following the 2015 MLB Draft. He spent two years in the Rangers organization, reaching as high as Double-A.
Gary begins their three-game series at Kansas City tonight. McKenzie will face Kansas City's Tommy Collier.
The series kicks off a six-game road trip that will also take the RailCats to St. Paul over the weekend. The RailCats will return home for a Memorial Day afternoon contest against the Chicago Dogs on May 28th, which will also be Ketchup Appreciation Day sponsored by Red Gold Tomatoes.
