GENEVA, Ill.- For the seventh time in eight tries, the Cougars (37-20, 82-45) and Burlington Bees (26-31, 6462) brought another game down to the wire. The Cougars came back with two runs in the bottom of the eighth to win their ninth straight ballgame on Tuesday evening at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.

With the Bees leading 3-2, Burlington reliever Alan Busenitz (4-5) retired the first five hitters he saw, before surrendering a two-out walk to Jeimer Candelario in the bottom of the eighth inning. Yasiel Balaguert followed up with a single, while a wild pitch brought both runners into scoring position. Jacob Rogers then looped a 1-2 offering over the center fielder Bo Way to score the game tying and winning runs. Trying to stretch his hit into a triple, Rogers was thrown out at third to end the inning.

Stephen McGee nearly evened up the score with a solo shot in the ninth, but the fly ball short-hopped the wall in left and McGee was limited to a double. Francisco Carrillo finished off the ball game by getting Bo Way to pop out on the infield for his third save of the year.

Rogers' two-run double was the only time the Cougars led in the contest, as Burlington outhit them 13 to four. Game tying efforts came in the fourth inning on Mark Zagunis' bases-loaded walk and in the fifth on Trey Martin's home run. Martin's solo shot was his third long ball of the week.

Zak Hermans (3-3) picked up the win with three innings of one-run baseball on four hits.

This series will wrap up on Wednesday with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch from Fifth Third Bank Ballpark. Duane Underwood (5-4, 2.4) will toss for the Cougars against Burlington's Alex Blackford (1-3, 2.39). For tickets call 630-232-8811 or visit kccougars.com.
