Vancouver Canadians News Release

The Canadians couldn't take advantage of six Tri-City errors as the Dust Devils hung on for a 4-2 victory over Vancouver on Monday night out at Gesa Stadium. The loss proved costly as both Everett and Eugene won on Monday night cutting the C's lead in the Northwest League's West Division to just two games.

Tri-City would open the scoring in the home half of the 1st inning when Canadians starter LHP Anvioris Ramirez gave up three straight base hits to start off the inning. Both CF Chandler Laurent and SS Jeremiah Sammy would single before RF Leonardo Reyes would hit his 9th double of the summer scoring Laurent from second base.

NOTE: Dust Devils manager Freddie Ocasio would wave Sammy around, but LF Jeff Bercume would relay the ball into SS Wade Kirkland who threw a strike to C Dan Petitti to cut down Sammy at the plate limiting the Tri-City offense to a lone run.

The Canadians would respond with a run in the top of the 2nd inning as DH John Nester would find his way on base after 2B Joseph Scott bobbled a ground ball and then threw it into the Dust Devils dugout advancing Nester to second base. Shortly after the miscue, Nester would come around to count 2B Ryan Pineda picked up his second base hit of the game off of Tri-City starter RHP Chad Bettis. Pineda's double, his second of the summer scored Nester to tie the game at 1-1.

The Dust Devils would regain the lead in the bottom of the 4th inning when RF Leonardo Reyes smacked a single to left field and scored on a double off the bat of LF Jared Simon giving Tri-City a 2-1 lead.

Vancouver caught a handful of breaks in the top of the 6th inning that allowed them to draw even with Tri-City. SS Wade Kirkland would lead the frame off with a double and then watch as Dust Devil SS Jeremiah Sammy misplayed a routine ground ball hit gently by C Dan Petitti. The gaff allowed Kirkland to score and even the game at 2-2.

Tri-City proved to be resilient despite a collage of six errors on the night defensively. The Dust Devils would grab their third lead of the game in the bottom of the 6th inning when Canadians reliever RHP Josh Bowman would come into the game and give up a solo home run to C Bryce Massanari, his 6th of the summer, helping Tri-City to a 3-2 lead.

The home team would grab some insurance in the bottom of the 8th inning when Canadians LHP Ryan Quigley would give up a single to RF Leonardo Reyes, a double to C Bryce Massanari and then a sacrifice fly to 1B Mark Tracy that scored Reyes from third base to give the Dust Devils a 4-2 lead.

Tri-City would almost cough up the lead in the top of the 9th inning when closer RHP Brad McAtee came in and SS Jeremiah Sammy committed his 3rd error of the game allowing 2B Ryan Pineda to reach base. LF Jeff Bercume was then hit by a pitch, but CF Michael Choice hit into a key double play that stopped the momentum in its tracks and shortly after, 3B Tony Thompson would fly out to left field to end the game.

NOTES: The Canadians loss drops them to 13-6 (.682) on the second half of the NWL season... Both Everett and Eugene won on Monday night moving both the Aquasox and Emeralds respectively to within two games of top spot in the West Division... Both of Vancouver's runs on Monday night were unearned... The Canadians were 2-for-17 with runners in scoring position, leaving 12 runners on base on Monday.
