Yakima Bears News Release

EUGENE, Ore. - Justin Hilt blasted a game-tying, two-run homer in the seventh inning and the Yakima Bears (12-8, 26-32) went on to defeat the Eugene Emeralds (11-9, 26-32) 5-3 in front of 1,872 fans at P.K. Park Tuesday afternoon.

Hilt's third home run of the season followed a Raoul Torrez infield single to even the game at 3-3.

The Bears took the lead in the eighth after Westley Moss reached on an infield hit, stole second, and scored on a Henry Zabala single to left. Yakima then added an insurance run in the ninth on a Jhoan Pimentel RBI fielder's choice to make the score 5-3.

Keith Cantwell (4-3) pitched two perfect innings in relief, striking out three to earn the victory. Xavier Esquivel (0-2) allowed three runs on four hits in two innings while striking out two to take the loss. Kable Hogben worked a perfect ninth for his sixth save in as many chances.

The Bears bullpen pitched flawlessly: Corey Davisson, Cantwell and Hogben combined for five innings without allowing a base runner, striking out six.

Eugene starter Mark Hardy went six solid innings, allowing just one run on two hits but did not factor into the decision after Esquivel blew the save.

Moss and Hilt both recorded multi-hit games, and Moss swiped his 18th base of the season.

Yakima and Eugene will meet Wednesday night at 7:05 for the rubber match of the five-game series. Brad Wilson (1-3, 4.71 ERA) is slated to pitch for the Bears against Dexter Carter (0-0, 5.59 ERA) for the Emeralds.
