BOISE, Idaho - Anthony Fernandez tossed six shutout innings, retiring the final 13 men he faced, as the Everett Aquasox evened the five-game series at two games apiece with a 7-1 victory over the Boise Hawks, before 2,664 fans at Memorial Stadium.
Everett jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI double by Robbie Anston, part of his 4-for-5 evening. Hawkins Gebbers added an RBI single in the fourth to push the lead to 2-0, with the Frogs adding three in the fifth on an RBI double from Ryan Royster and a two-run double from Kevin Mailloux.
It was enough for Fernandez, who allowed just three hits and struck out four for his league-leading sixth win. Steven Baron added three hits for the Frogs.
Boise got two hits each from Richard Jones and Micah Gibbs and avoided the shutout in the ninth with a Jesus Morelli sacrifice fly.
The rubber game of the series is tomorrow night, with Austin Kirk meeting Ogui Diaz at 7:15 p.m.
NOTES - The Hawks turned a season-high four double plays in the game.
