Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings were in action at the Brookings Blizzard for a pre-Thanksgiving Day game. The Wings travel all this week and weekend, including games on Friday and Saturday in Minot.
In the first period, just a minute into the game the Blizzard got on the board with a goal from Brandon Parker. The Wings regrouped at the 2:24 mark on the power play with a goal from #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). The assists coming from #27 Erik Baskin (F-Excelsior, MN) and #2 Ryan Cook (D-Buffalo, NY). Aberdeen would get the lead six minutes later with a goal from #22 Zach Doerring (F-Chanhassen, MN), which was a blast of a slap shot from just inside the blue line. #8 Drew Doyon (F-Indianapolis, IN) would get the assist to Doerring. With the Wings holding a 2-1 lead, the Blizzard would score again with a short-handed goal from Jared Goudreau. The first would end in a 2-2 tie.
In the second period, the bodies were flying as both teams battled for puck possession. Brookings would manage a goal at the 1:57 mark from Brandon Parker, his second goal of the game.
The third period would be much of the same, but with just over 8 minutes to play in the game the Aberdeen Wings would tie it back up with a goal from #18 Austin Swingle (F-St. Cloud, MN). #17 Brycon Johnson (F-St. Louis, MO) would put a shot on goal as the loose put would be gathered up by Swingle with a wraparound shot and goal. After Aberdeen failed to capitalized on six power plays, the Blizzard would get the go-ahead goal with 90 seconds left, to gain the lead 4-3. With merely 5.9 seconds, the Wings would pull the goalie for the extra attacker and it would pay off as #4 Jake Horton (D-Plymouth, MN) would bring the puck up against the net. A battle would ensue in front with the loose puck coming to the stick of #16 Kyle Haak for his second goal of the game. Regulation would expire 4-4 going into overtime.
With just around a minute left in the overtime period, #22 Zach Doerring would skate it into the Brookings zone on the right side, would wrap around to the right side of the Blizzard goalie dishing it over to #4 Jake Horton who was waiting with an empty net shot, his 9th goal of the season and the Wings improve to 14-7-1 on the season.
