Stars Slip Past Barons 2-1

November 27, 2013 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Lone Star Brahmas News Release

Colton Sceviour's league-leading 15th goal of the season broke a 1-1 tie in the third period and proved to be the winner in the Texas Stars' 2-1 win over the Oklahoma City Barons on Wednesday at Cedar Park Center outside Austin, Texas.

The Barons have dropped three of the first four on this five-game trip, which wraps up Friday at 7:30 pm CST against the San Antonio Rampage at AT&T Center. Oklahoma City and San Antonio meet again on Saturday at the Cox Center at 7 pm.

The Barons, 8-10-0-2, have lost consecutive road games in regulation for the first time this season. In each of their last two games they've allowed the go-ahead goal in the third period.

Texas out-shot Oklahoma City 41-25, including a 30-12 clip over the final two periods after a scoreless opening 20 minutes.

Texas opened the scoring on the power play early in the second period, as Sceviour intercepted a pass from Barons goaltender Jason LaBarbera and fed Chris Mueller, who slipped it into the net as LaBarbera was sliding back into position at 4:19. LaBarbera made 39 saves in his Barons debut after opening the season with the Edmonton Oilers.

Taylor Fedun tied the game at 5:39 of the third from the deep slot on a setup by Linus Omark. Andrew Miller drew the second assist. Stars goalie Cristopher Nilstorp (4-7-1) stopped 24 shots.

The Stars regained the lead a minute and 10 seconds later at 6:49, as Sceviour tipped home a Curtis McKenzie shot.

Texas improves to 11-6-2-2 and has taken both games between the teams at Cedar Park Center after the Barons won the first meeting of the season in Oklahoma City 2-1 in overtime Oct. 15.
