Wichita Falls Wildcats News Release

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - Thanks to srong defense and goaltending, the Wichita Falls Wildcats (14-8-3) claimed a 3-1 win over the Lone Star Brahmas on Friday.

Will Vosejpka and Colin Staub scored in the contest for the Wildcats, Kyle Bauman had a goal and an assist and David Zevnik made 25 saves to earn his seventh win of the season. Jake Townsend and Tyler Ledford also notched an assist apiece.

The Wildcats opened the scoring at the 14:38 of the first period. With the teams skating four-on-four, Townsend put a shot on net from the middle of the blue line. Staub was camped out in front of the net and deflected the puck past TJ Black for his sixth goal of the season.

Wichita Falls doubled its advantage just over two minutes later, this time through Vosejpka. Andrew Kerr's point shot was blocked on the way through, but fell to Bauman in the high slot. With two defenders draped all over him, Bauman fed to Vosejpka unmarked in front of the crease, who in turn, tucked it between the legs of Black for his team-leading ninth goal of the season.

The second period was dominated by the goaltenders, with both Zevnik and Black making multiple remarkable saves to keep the score at 2-0.

The Brahmas cut the deficit in half at 14:21 of the third period when Jan Hudecek swatted a puck out of midair to spoil Zevnik's shutout bid, but that was as close as they would get.

With time winding down, Bauman skated the puck into the empty net to seal the deal and complete the scoring at 3-1.

The Wildcats return to the ice on Friday when they host the Corpus Christi IceRays at the Kay Yeager Coliseum. Friday is Texas Parks and Wildlife Neighborhood Fishing Night, with the first 200 fans in attendance receiving free Berkley Gulp Trout Bait courtesy of Texas Parks and Wildlife Inland Fisheries. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage available via FASTHockey.com.
