Austin Bruins News Release

On Thanksgiving Eve, the Austin Bruins (17-6-0) snapped their five-game road losing streak with a dominating 6-1 win over the Coulee Region Chill (13-9-0) at the Onalaska Omni Center in Onalaska, WI. Five different skaters scored for Austin in the convincing win, as the Bruins hit the road for a long bus ride to Bismarck on Thanksgiving.

The biggest reason for the Bruins struggles on the road had been scoring, but Austin came out firing in the first period against the Chill. After Austin Nelson (Hastings, MN) threw a backhander on net from the slot in the opening minutes, newcomer Dion Antisin (Kelowna, BC) swatted the rebound out of the air into the net for his first career goal. Brennan Sanford (Holt, MI) made it 2-0 Bruins, when he muscled his way around a Coulee Region defenseman and beat starting goalie Adam Carlson (Edina, MN) with a quick wrist shot. Carlson was chased after Jay Dickman (Shoreview, MN) jammed a rebound into the net for a power-play goal at 12:57 of the first. The Bruins outshot the Chill 20-12 in the opening frame.

Another rookie scored his first-ever goal in the NAHL for the Bruins, as Tyler Jones (Naperville, IL) closed off the last defenseman in the right circle and moved the puck to his forehand, beating backup goalie Blake Cates (Stillwater, MN) at 3:05 of the second period. Jones, typically a defenseman, dressed as a forward for the first time and it paid off on the scoresheet. Austin killed off a late penalty and carried a 4-0 lead into the second intermission.

After James McGing (Chicago, IL) put the Chill on the board at 5:48 of the third period, Coulee Region saw a speck of hope, but Lucas Kohls (Forest Lake, MN) provided the dagger in the final five minutes with a wrist shot from the right circle into the top shelf. Sanford added a short-handed goal with 1:40 left to make it 6-1, after Easton Viitala (Marquette, MI) won a lengthy battle in the corner during the penalty-kill. Nick Lehr (Roseville, MN) made 31 saves for the Bruins in his 15th win of the season.

The Bruins travel on Thanksgiving Thursday, with two games in Bismarck against the Bobcats Friday and Saturday night. Austin swept the Bobcats at home three weeks ago with back-to-back shutouts. Both games will start at 7:15pm and can be seen on fasthockey.com.
