Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings had a rare one-game week with a Friday night tilt in Bismarck. The Wings have been extremely affective on the road this season, going 15-8-1. Friday night, the Wings came away with a huge 3-2 victory increasing their record against the Bobcats in Bismarck to 3-1-1 so far this season.
Just like last week's game in Aberdeen, the Bobcats scored in the first 20 seconds. Bobcats' star-forward Cullen Willox got the goal just :19 seconds into the game. A few minutes later, the Wings would answer with a beautiful goal from #11 Victor Ostling (F-Stockholm, Sweden), assists from #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI) and #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario). Much of the first period would be a battle along the boards, with much of the physical play hampering any chances of puck movement.
In the second period, the Bobcats' Willox would get another tally giving Bismarck a 2-1 lead. The physical play would move from the boards to after whistles in the second period. At the 11:18 mark, Wings defenseman #2 Ryan Cook (D-Lancaster, NY) would give the puck off to #22 Colin Raver (F-Bartlett, IL) who would find #25 Tucker DeYoung (F-Lake Bluff, IL) cutting to the net for the quick goal and a tie game 2-2.
Halfway through the final period, after a violent high-sticking penalty on the Bobcats, the Wings would score on the power play from #21 Bjorn Sigurdarson (F-Reykjavik, Iceland) with assists from #19 Colin O'Neill (F-Odenton, MD) and #10 Tanner Okeson (F-Roseau, MN). The Wings would hold off a final attack by the Bobcats for the 3-2 victory. Wings goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK) would stop 38 of 40 shots on goal. Shortridge improves to 13-11-1, with a 2.54 goals against average.
