Rochester Red Wings News Release

Alexi Casilla and Denard Span keyed a fifth inning rally, helping the Red Wings to a 3-2 win over the Ottawa Lynx Saturday in the second game of a doubleheader at Frontier Field. Ottawa topped the Wings in the opener, 2-1. The Wings continue with the homestand with a 1:35 pm game on Sunday.

In the second game, former Wing J.D. Durbin made his first appearance with Ottawa, and was in command from the outset of the game. Durbin had a three-hitter with seven strikeouts after four innings in a 1-1 tie. But the Wings knocked out Durbin in the fifth, when they staged a two-out rally.

Matt Tolbert hit a single followed by Span, who hit an RBI line drive double to the left field corner. Casilla came up next and hit a single that brought Span home from second. Casilla's hit knocked out Durbin; Matt Smith replaced him on the mound. Doug Deeds and Garrett Jones drew back-to-back walks, but Matthew LeCroy ended the inning with a strikeout.

Wings starter Jason Miller scattered five hits over five innings to pick up the win, with relief help from Julio DePaula and Bobby Korecky (sixth save).

In the opener, Ottawa opened up the scoring in the top of the second inning against Wings starter Kevin Slowey. Gary Burnham hit a long double into the left field corner, Chris Coste struck out, then Jim Rushford hit a double to the gap between left and center field, scoring Burnham.

The Lynx struck again in the fourth when Burnham led off with his second double of the game, then moved to third on Coste's ground out. Two batters later, Burham scored on Brennan King's double to the right field corner.

Ottawa starter Brian Mazone held the Red Wings offense in check, allowing just a pair of singles through five innings. Rochester combined a walk, error and run-scoring sacrifice fly by Tolbert to score one run in the fifth.

Mazone (3-2) earned the win, allowing one unearned run off two hits, walking two and fanning six batters in six innings pitched. Brian Sanches earned a save (his fourth), striking out one batter in one inning pitched.

Slowey (3-1) took the loss - his first of the season - in seven innings; he allowed two runs (both earned) off seven hits and struck out three.
