Philadelphia, PA - The Philadelphia Wings 2011 roster will feature 14 new faces as General Manager Johnny Mouradian and Head Coach John Tucker today made their final cuts. Twelve veterans from last season's team will complete the Wings 2011 roster.
"I am personally thrilled with the roster upgrades made throughout the process. We have overhauled our roster and have become much younger and more talented." Said Head Coach John Tucker.
Key players returning include Philadelphia native and Wings Veteran John Christmas; NLL single season goal scoring record holder, Athan Iannucci; Bill McGlone who ended the 2010 season with 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) and 61 loose ball; David Mitchell - 23 points (7 goals, 16 assists) and 36 loose balls; and Drew Westervelt, the right-handed forward who racked up 72 points (32 goals, 40 assists) and 87 loose balls in 2010. Defenders Pat Heim, Penn State Grad; Shawn Nadelen, US National Team Member; Jeff Reynolds, Maryland Graduate and Duke Graduate, Taylor Wray will return as well. US Men's National Team transition players Max Seibald and Kyle Sweeney are back along with veteran goalie Brandon Miller (581 saves in 2010).
The 14 players joining the Wings for this first time include goalies Ray Hodgkinson and Brodie MacDonald. Defense saw the most change with the addition of Matt Alrich, Paul Dawson, Steve Holmes, Brett Manney, Ryan McFadyen, Joe Smith, Dan Hardy, and Jeff Bigas. Alex Turner, Brendan Mundorf and Ryan Boyle join the Wings offense. Mundorf and Boyle both played on the 2010 US Men's National Team. Ryan McClelland is the sole transition player to dawn a Wings jersey for the first time in 2010.
"Coaches and management have added 12 new athletes to the roster and we are extremely excited with the level of play we have seen so far." Said Wings General Manager Johnny Mouradian. "All of our players, from rookies to veterans, are committed to maintaining that high intensity and doing whatever it takes to bring the wins back to Philadelphia."
The Wings open their 2011 NLL season on Saturday, January 8 against the Boston Blazers at the Wells Fargo Center at 7 p.m.
