December 23, 2010 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Minnesota Swarm News Release
SAINT PAUL, MINN. - The National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Minnesota Swarm today announced the team's final 23-man roster for the 2011 season. The Swarm will begin regular season play against the Rochester Knighthawks on Saturday, January 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Xcel Energy Center.
The 2011 roster returns 18 players from last season and welcomes five new players in Tyler Hass, Matt Kelly, Rory Smith, Mat Giles and Andrew Suitor.
"This coming season looks to be very different than past seasons," General Manager Marty O'Neill said. "We return three Top 10 scorers when we've never had one in our previous existence. Add Matt Giles to that mix and our offense again should be counted on for high output. Defensively we maintain a strong core with some youth and added toughness again making this season unlike those in the past. The Swarm will be a tougher unit led by returning defenseman Travis Hill, rookie Andrew Suitor and newly acquired Rory Smith. Everyone is looking forward to the start of the season."
Minnesota also agreed to terms with Ryan Hurley and Drew Dickie. Both will be placed on the team's practice squad pending league approval.
Earlier this week, the Swarm released Josh Funk, Matt Lyons, Brock Boyle, Sean Thomson. Scott Johnston, Joel Henry, John McClure, Scott Gamble, and Scott Rogers.
The Swarm finished its sixth season of play at Xcel Energy Center in 2010 with a regular season record of 5-11. Minnesota advanced to the playoffs for the fourth time in team history, where they fell to the eventual NLL champion Washington Stealth, 14-10.
