Rochester Knighthawks Set 23-Man Roster
December 23, 2010 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Knighthawks have set their final roster for the 2011 National Lacrosse League season, which is scheduled to open on Saturday, January 8th in Minnesota against the Swarm.
Knighthawks Owner and General Manager Curt Styres announced the 23-man roster, which includes 12 new players with the addition of Mike Accursi, Troy Bonterre, Tyler Burton, Jarrett Davis, Colinoe) Hall, Pat McCready, Ian Rubel, Josh Ruys, Matt Vinc, Matt Zash, Chase Williams and Cody Jamieson.
"We had many difficult decisions. The changes will benefit the Knighthawks," said Styres. "Compared to last year, we are going to win every game instead of just showing up for them."
The biggest move of the day was signing of Jamieson, who was the 2010 No. 1 overall pick. The Knighthawks inked the former Syracuse University and Six Nations star to a league-record 10-year deal. Jamieson played two seasons at Syracuse University and scored the overtime game-winner in the 2009 National Championship game. In 2009, he was named the winner of the Jim Murphy Award as the Major Series Lacrosse MVP, the Gene Dopp Award as outstanding rookie and the Buck McDonald Award as the league's top scorer with 48 goals and 48 assists for 96 points. It was the first time in MSL history anyone has won all three awards in the same season.
Styres also placed Marshall Abrams, Jordan Hall, Shawn Evans and Shawn Williams on the physically unable to perform list as they recover from injuries. Cory Vitarelli was placed on the holdout list as he finishes his hockey career at the University of Prince Edward Island.
The team also announced that 17-year pro Pat O'Toole will immediately begin his new role as the team's goaltending coach. Rochester made other moves, releasing defenseman Steve Toll, and transition/defensemen Kevin Fines and Bobby McBride.
Rochester 23-man roster:
Goaltender: Aaron Bold, Matt Vinc.
Defense: Troy Bonterre, Tyler Burton, Scott Ditzell, Kyle Laverty, Pat McCready, Ian Rubel, Sid Smith, Matt Zash
Transition: Chris Driscoll, Joel McCready, Josh Ruys, Chris Schiller, Joe Walters
Forward: Mike Accursi, Jarrett Davis, Scott Evans, Gary Gait, Colinoe) Hall, Cody Jamieson, Craig Point, Chase Williams
The Knighthawks will break for the holidays and resume practices on Wednesday, December 29th with a session at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Six Nations. The Knighthawks will open the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, January 15th against the Toronto Rock at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.
