Brampton Beast News Release

KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN - Brampton Beast forward Corey Durocher scored his first professional goal in the third period but the Kalamazoo Wings scored four goals in the final frame to outlast the Beast 5-2 at Wings Event Center on Saturday night.

Durocher and Willie Corrin scored for the Beast who remain winless through their first four games of the 2017-18 ECHL season.

It was the Wings home opener but the Beast took the energy out of the building early by scoring the game's first goal. Corrin settled a loose puck near the side of the goal and flipped a perfect backhand shot over the glove of Wings starting goaltender Joel Martin for a 1-0 lead at 11:15.

The K-Wings would strike back at 14:11 to tie the game heading into the first intermission thanks to a goal from Kyle Bushee.

Following a tightly contested, scoreless second frame, Kalamazoo jumped ahead early in the third with a goal from Lane Scheidl just 3:48 into the third period.

Wings defenseman Eric Kattelus pushed the lead to 3-1 at 14:28 before the Beast made it interesting.

While down a man, Durocher parked himself at the right hand side of the goal and took a perfect pass from Brandon MacLean and snapped home his first professional goal at 15:25.

Scott Henegar scores less than a minute later and Justin Taylor scored into an empty net to finish the scoring.

Beast starting goaltender Michael McNiven made 26 saves and is still searching for his first professional victory. Martin picked up the 'W' for Kalamazoo and finished the game with 27 stops.

NOTES: Molson Three Stars 3) Bushee (KAL) 2) Scheidl (KAL) 1) Kattelus (KAL). The Beast finished the game 1-for-6 on the power play and a perfect 5-for-5 on the penalty kill. The Beast won't have to wait long to seek their revenge as the two teams will clash again tomorrow, Sunday, October 22 at the Powerade Centre at 2:00PM.
