Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, CO. - Colorado defenseman Matt Register collected a pair of goals, as the Eagles moved to 4-0 on the season with a 6-4 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday. Joe Cannata earned the win in net, stopping 35 of the 39 shots thrown his way.

Colorado scored the game's first goal for the fourth consecutive game, as Register launched a slapshot from the high-slot, beating Admirals goalie Ty Reichenbach and giving the Eagles a 1-0 lead with 7:45 remaining in the first period.

Moving into the middle frame, the scoring would open up for both sides, as Colorado grew its lead when a 3-on-2 rush down the ice led to defenseman Gabriel Verpaelst blasting home a shot from the slot to make it a 2-0 Eagles advantage at the 6:05 mark of the second period.

The Admirals would break through on the scoreboard less than two minutes later, as forward Angelo Micelli buried a wrister from between the circles to cut the Eagles edge to 2-1. Just 3:37 after Micelli's tally, Norfolk forward Grant Besse would connect on a power-play opportunity to tie the game at 2-2 with 8:44 to play in the second period.

Colorado would summon a quick answer, as rookie forward J.C. Baudin would take a beautiful cross-slot feed from Michael Joly to notch his first professional goal and put the Eagles back on top 3-2 at the 13:10 mark of the period.

Again the momentum would swing, as Admirals Forward Brodie Dupont fired a wrist shot from the slot through traffic to beat Eagles goalie Joe Cannata and square the game at 3-3 with 1:29 to play in the middle stanza.

Despite less than 90 seconds remaining in the period, Colorado would seize a late opportunity when forward Jesse Mychan forced a turnover and stepped into a slapshot from the left circle to light the lamp and give Colorado a 4-3 advantage with only 59 seconds left in the second.

The third period began with Eagles forward Ryan Harrsion deflecting a puck out of midair on top of the crease on the power play to extend the Colorado lead to 5-3 with 4:14 gone in the final frame.

The Admirals would strike back when Micelli sliced through the slot on a penalty shot, roofing the puck and pulling Norfolk within a goal at the 8:26 mark of the third period.

Colorado would gain some breathing room with Reichenbach pulled in favor of the extra attacker, as an errant Admirals pass would travel the length of the ice into the empty net to give the Eagles the 6-4 victory.

Colorado continues its homestand when the Eagles welcome in the Worcester Railers for the first-ever meeting between the two teams on Wednesday, October 25th at the Budweiser Events Center. The puck drops at 7:05pm at the Budweiser Events Center. Tickets are available at Colorado Eagles.com.
