Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Aberdeen Wings were in action Friday night taking on the Minnesota Magicians in a non-divisional game. Both teams, members of the North American Hockey League, have been on rough patches lately. 1,370 Wings fans packed the Odde Ice Center for what was to be an intense game.
At the 7:41 mark, the Magicians would get the lead on a power play goal from Nolan Schaeffer. Later in the period, after a slashing penalty by the Wings, the Magicians would get another power play goal. The period would end with the Wings down 2-0.
In the second period, the penalty box would be full for both teams. Tempers flared with a total of 62 penalty minutes served in the period. The Wings however would get a goal from #13 Michael Soucier (F-Caledon, Ontario) on the power play with assists from #10 Tanner Okeson (D-Roseau, MN) and #16 Kyle Haak (F-Okemos, MI). Wings forward #8 Drew Doyon (F-Indianapolis, IN) would put an end to the chippy play dropping gloves with Minnesota's Shevyrin.
In the third period, the game would not feature a single penalty. Rather both teams would battle to get that next goal. For the Wings it meant tying the game, for the Magicians it meant be closer to securing their first victory in 7 games. Though both teams struggled to get puck control, the Magicians would dump an empty netter giving them a 3-1 win. Wings goaltender #35 Andrew Shortridge (G-Eagle River, AK) stopped 15 of 17 shots on goal.
