Wenatchee Battles Brahmas in the Lone Star State

Wenatchee has begun their second road trip this year and have found themselves taking on the Lone Star Brahmas in North Richland Hills, Texas. The Wild are coming in to the second half of this season with fire in their eyes and goals set in their sights, and they are looking to make a consecutive playoff appearance. The team is coming out of the gates throwing hard punches and isn't going to leave until the very end. At the end of the night, the Brahmas would collect a 6-5 victory as well as put themselves ahead 1-0 in this series. Currently, Wenatchee is only 8 points out of claiming the South Division's fourth place spot.

The Wild dominated the first period in a way that would put them ahead 3-0 after the first 20 minutes. Andre Pison struck first blood with his goal four minutes and thirty five seconds after the initial puck drop that was assisted by August Van Ungem-Sternberg and Jake Ahlgren. Chris Jones gave his team the 2-0 lead with an unassisted point at the 9:50 minute mark. Ryan Chiasson closed out the first period with his goal at thirteen thirty seven that would put Wenatchee up by 3 points. Brendan Harris and Jake Ahlgren would pick up the last assists of the period.

Oskar Andren would open the middle frame with Lone Star's first goal of the night. This goal was scored four minutes and eighteen seconds into the period with assistance from Sebastian Vidmar and Ludvig Larsson. After a successful penalty shot at 7:44, Sebastian Vidmar would cut Wenatchee's lead to one point. Andren scored his second of the night ten minutes and twenty seconds after the opening of this frame with help received from Vidmar and Sean Giles. Getting back into the game, Colin Burston scored the Wild's fourth goal of the night eleven minutes and five seconds into the period with assistance from Dakota Raabe and Ryan Chiasson. 17 seconds later, Quinn Carroll gave the Brahmas their fourth point of the night when he received the puck from Hayden Hanson and Liam Stirtzinger. Oskar closed the middle period with a hat trick that occurred at the 19:14 minute mark. Johan Steen and Ludvig Larsson would pick up the last assists of this period.

Eleven minutes and forty four seconds into the final period, Dakota Raabe gave Wenatchee their fifth and final goal with an unassisted point. Oskar Andren scored his fourth point and the Brahmas' sixth with less than twenty seconds to go before the final buzzer. Andren had assistance from Steen and Vidmar.

Wenatchee ended the night with a 9-2-12 shot record and only one penalty. Colin Burston was called out for a roughing infraction one second before the end of the game.

Both of the Wild's goaltenders, Michael Bullion and Zach Quinn, saw game time tonight. Bullion was in for the first 30:19 minutes and saved 12 shots out of 14. Quinn played the remaining 29:31 and stopped 9 shots on goal out of 13.

After the game, Coach Littler stated, "Tough one to lose like that. Regroup for tomorrow. Need a full 60 minutes from everybody."

The Wild will be back tomorrow night, January 10th, for the second and final game of this series. This game has a puck drop at 7:30 pm CST. After these games, the Wild will head back to Washington for their first home series of 2015 against the Corpus Christi Ice Rays. This series will take place January 16th and 17th.
