Wings lose Schroeder and Spano in Expansion Draft

Philadelphia Wings' goaltender Nick Schroeder and defenseman Jeff Spano were chosen in the National Lacrosse League's expansion draft that took place today. Schroeder was chosen by the Portland Lumberjax in the eighth round (15th overall) and Spano was chosen by the Edmonton Rush in the ninth round (18th overall).

"Jeff and Nick have been an integral part of our franchise the past four seasons," said Wings General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "We wish both players continued success in their playing careers and appreciate the contributions that both have made to our franchise."

Portland General Manager Derek Keenan and Edmonton General Manager Paul Day each selected nine unprotected players, making a total of 18 selections. No team lost more than two players. For a full list of Portland and Edmonton's picks log on to www.nll.com .

Schroeder recorded a 327 saves in nine games played for the Wings during his four-year career in Philadelphia. He was acquired through a trade in 2002 with the former Montreal Express in exchange for the Wings' second round pick in the 2002 Entry Draft.

Spano, a Malvern, PA native, acquired 69 points (19G, 50A) and recovered 259 loose balls in four seasons with the Wings. The Drexel University graduate was signed as a free agent by Philadelphia prior to the 2002 season.
