FORT WORTH- The Fort Worth Cats (43-26) used a four run first inning to defeat the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings (32-38) 5-0 as the Wings lost their eighth striaght game Sunday night at LaGrave field.
Fort Worth used a four run first inning to grab an early lead. The scoring started after back to back walks from Cameron Monger and Cody Bishop.
This set the stage for David Bergin, Bergin scored Monger on an RBI single giving the Cats a 1-0 lead.
Bishop later scored on a fielder's choice making it 2-0. The scoring continued with a pair of runs on a passed ball and fielders choice giving the Cats a 4-0 lead.
In the fourth inning Fort Worth added to their lead scoring on a fielders choice from Daniel Meeley making it 5-0.
Cole Stephens (6-2) got the win tossing six scoreless innings on three hits, meanwhile Brett Miller (1-3) was charged with the loss on four innings of work allowing five hits and five runs.
The Wings now losers of eight straight look to get back into the win column as they send J.R. Bromberg in game three of the series.
Game three is set for Monday with the first pitch slatted for 7:05 p.m.
