Colts Dominate Roadrunners Sunday

San Angelo, Texas --- San Angelo Colts' starting pitcher Chandler Barnard tossed 8 2/3 shutout innings, and guided his team to a 7-1 win over the Edinburg Roadrunners Sunday night at Foster Field.
Barnard (2-0) was perfect through his first 3 1/3 innings. He went on to give up a run on five hits, and strike out a game-high six batters for the complete-game victory.
The Colts' offense gave Barnard run support from the very beginning. San Angelo scored two runs in the first, and led 3-0 after the second inning.
First baseman Steve Rinaudo and second baseman Jon Dziomba both scored in the first. Rinaudo came home from third on a sacrifice fly by centerfielder Joseph Hicks, while Dziomba scored on an RBI single by left fielder Cody Hudson.
San Angelo put the game out of reach with two runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Edinburg starter Dan Schmidt surrendered the runs in the fifth, and was taken out after retiring just one batter in the sixth.
Schmidt (4-2) gave up five runs, four earned, on nine hits in 5 1/3 innings for the loss.
With two outs in the top of the ninth, the Roadrunners ended Barnard's shutout bid. Left fielder Derrick Pyles extended the inning with a base hit up the middle, and then scored on an RBI double by designated hitter Carlton Salters.
After giving up the run, Barnard finished his complete game by striking out veteran right fielder Tim Battle.
The win improves the Colts to 35-34, and moves them up to second place in the United League. Meanwhile, the loss drops Edinburg down to third place at 35-35. This series continues Monday night. Gates open at 6:05 p.m., and first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
