Barnard, Colts Defeat Roadrunners

SAN ANGELO, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners fell to the San Angelo Colts 7-1 Sunday night at Foster Field behind a complete game from Chandler Barnard.

Barnard (2-0) scattered five hits and allowed just one run with six strikeouts in the game as he earned his second win of the season.

The Colts (35-34) grabbed the lead in the bottom of the first. Steve Rinuado led off with a triple and then came in to score on a sacrifice fly by Joseph Hicks. Later in the inning, Cody Hudson hit an RBI single that scored Jon Dziomba making it 2-0.

An error in the bottom of the second by the Roadrunners' defense allowed the Colts to score a run adding to their lead 3-0.

In the bottom of the fifth, Rinuado came into score after a double play off the bat of Hicks. Hudson added another run for San Angelo with an RBI single that scored Miguel Alfonso from second that made it 5-0.

Alfonso hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh that scored Dziomba from second. Ryan Hutson made it 7-0 with a sacrifice fly scoring Hicks from third extending their lead 7-0.

The Roadrunners (35-35) got their loan run against Barnard in the top of the ninth after Carlton Salters hit an RBI double. That is all Barnard would allow giving the Colts the 7-1 victory.

Dan Schmidt (4-2) took the loss after allowing five runs, two earned, in five and a third innings. He scattered nine hits with one strike out.

The Roadrunners and Colts will play the fourth game of their five-game series on Monday at Foster Field with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm.
