Wings Comeback Falls Short in a Shootout Sunday
December 2, 2019 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Aberdeen Wings News Release
The Bismarck Bobcats survived a comeback attempt by the Aberdeen Wings to pick up the extra point in the shootout to earn a 4-3 win on Sunday and a weekend road split with the Wings.
The Bobcats got off to a very goo start, opening the scoring with two goals within :25 seconds early in the 1st period. Grant Johnson scored the first at the 5:30 mark for a 1-0 lead, followed by Daniel Chladek's tally at the 5:54 mark to make it 2-0 Bismarck. Adam Stacho would score the third goal on a power play giving the Bobcats a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes. Those three goals would spell the end of the night for Wings goalie Jake Sibell, who was lifted after one period, making 11 saves.
The Wings responded back in the 2nd period as Jack Powell opened the scoring blasting the puck off the end-boards and off Bobcats goalie Andrew Miller's skate making it a 3-1 deficit at the 6:13 mark. Cade Neilsen cut the deficit to one with 12:52 to play when he scored his fifth goal of the year coming off the assist by Antonio DiPaolo and Spencer Schneider.
Midway through the 3rd period, Huston Harpman scored his 3rd goal of the season to tie the game at 3-3, which is how regulation would end. Both teams had plenty of chances in the overtime, but could not find the back of the net. In the shootout, Johnson was the only one of the six combined shooters to find the back of the net.
Miller would make 32 saves in the win. Henry Welsch came in and stopped all 19 shots he saw in 45 minutes of action through the last two periods and overtime.
The Wings are back in action this Friday and Saturday at the Odde Ice Center when they take on the Minnesota Wilderness. Tickets are on sale NOW at any of the C-Express locations in Aberdeen or upgrade to a reserved seat at the door!
