Ice Wolves Score Season-High 6 Goals

On the final day of November the Ice Wolves were in search of a split weekend against the IceRays. They lost the previous night via shootout, 4-3. With their point however it put them at double digits and now they were only six points behind Odessa for sixth place.

Jeremy Forman started in net for the IceRays for the second-straight night but he did not remain there for long. Just 8:33 into the first period he was pulled from the net after letting in two goals on six shots. The night before he had 26 saves. The first goal was scored by Alex Dominique (4) and then only :35 seconds later Keegan Langefels (2) launched the puck backhanded to beat Forman. Replacing him was Cal Sandquist, who was ranked in the top-10 for goalies.

In the middle period the IceRays went on an early powerplay and capitalized just three seconds into it. Cutting the Ice Wolves lead in half, 2-1. Just over halfway into the hockey game Keegan Langefels fed Spencer Rudrud (5), who was able to wrist one past Sandquist. Once again giving the Ice Wolves a two-goal lead heading into an intermission.

Once again the IceRays managed to score while on the man-advantage within the first two minutes of a period, bringing them within one goal. The floodgate however started to open up for New Mexico as they set a season-high three goals in the final period. The first came from Tristan Rand making it his first ever NAHL goal. Following him up was Zach Frisk (2). Giving the Ice Wolves their most ever goals scored in a game. Philip Ekberg (4) increased that record after he scored on the powerplay with only three minutes left in regulation. The Ice Wolves won 6-2 making it their largest victory of the season.

Henrik Laursen stopped 24 shots and picked up his second win of the season. The Ice Wolves improved to 5-19-0-2 (12pts) and are now only four points behind sixth place. They also picked up three out of a possible four points this weekend. They now have a three-game road point streak that they will take to Shreveport next weekend.
