Wingnuts win, just miss shutout again

WICHITA, KS- The Wingnuts jumped out to a 3-0 lead and hung on, defeating the Sioux City Explorers 3-2 on Friday night at Lawrence Dumont Stadium.

The Wingnuts got tremendous starting pitching for the second straight night, as winner Justin Young (2-0) allowed just five hits in 6 2/3 innings. Byron Embry allowed two runs in the ninth, but picked up his seventh save of the season. It was the first runs allowed by Embry this season.

The Wingnuts scored a run in the second and then put two more on the board in the seventh on RBI's from Stephen Pearson and Felipe Del Rosario.

The Wingnuts, now 14-8 and just 1/2 game behind first place St. Paul, will battle the Explorers again on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. For tickets call the Wingnuts at (316) 264-4625.
