(ST. CATHARINES, ON) - The Windsor Express will advance to the second round of the NBLC Playoffs after a road win against the Niagara River Lions on Friday night. Windsor held a double digit lead over Niagara for most of the game, and finished strong with a 95-83 victory.
Travis Releford started the game off on the right foot for the River Lions with a layup. Brandon Robinson puts up six points in a minute to extend the Express lead to 22-16. Robinson finishes the first quarter off with a buzzer beater to give the Express a ten point lead, 30-20.
Theo Davis came off the bench and started the second quarter with a two handed slam to keep Windsor's lead intact. Windsor outscored Niagara 21-12 in the second quarter, and went into halftime with a 51-32 lead.
The River Lions came out of halftime looking to slow down the Express, and were able to by going on a 12-3 run in the first four minutes of the game. Sherron Collins and Billy Rush each hit three pointers to extend the Express lead to 12, 60-48. The Express went into the final quarter with a 68-59 advantage.
After being outscored 27-17 in the third quarter by Niagara, Windsor was able to come back early in the fourth, and the momentum continued for the remainder of the quarter. Kirk Williams Jr and Brandon Robinson each went in for two handed slams with the game winding down, giving Windsor a 93-79 lead. Travis Releford takes the last shot for Niagara, and Windsor would walk away with a 95-83 victory.
Brandon Robinson lead the way in scoring for the Express with 24 points.
Chris Commons had a stellar double double performance, with 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Billy Rush added 12 points of his own.
B.J. Monteiro put up a game high 26 points for the River Lions in the loss.
Sammy Zeglinski had 14 points of his own.
The Windsor Express will face the London Lightning in the second round of the NBLC Playoffs. Second round dates are TBD.
