Winchester leads 'Dogs to victory

Hamilton, ON - Hamilton forward Brad Winchester posted one goal and two assists as Hamilton beat the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 3-2 for the first time this season in front of 5,314 fans at Copps Coliseum.

After a scoreless first period, Omaha forward David Moss opened the scoring at 2:41 of the second period with the Knights on the power play. Moss banged his own rebound past Bulldogs netminder Olivier Michaud. Mark Giordano and Ritchie Regher picked up the assists.

Hamilton tied the game only 32 seconds later on a give-and-go between Marc-Antoine Pouliot and Francis Lemieux. Pouliot received a return pass from Lemieux and fired a shot that beat Omaha goaltender Brent Krahn. Winchester picked up the other assist.

Hamilton took the lead at 5:04 of the third period while on the power play when Lemieux picked up a Winchester rebound and shot the puck into an open net. James Sanford also earned an assist.

The Knights tied the scoring at 11:09 when forward Ajay Baines received a pass in the slot from defenceman Derek Couture and backhanded a shot under Michaud's arm.

Winchester scored the game-winner with the 'Dogs on the power play at 14:51 when he took a pass from Duncan Milroy and snapped his 17th goal of the season past Krahn.

Michaud made 25 saves to earn the win, while Krahn stopped 32 shots.

Hamilton was 2 for 9 on the power play while Omaha went 1 for 8.

Hamilton's next game will take place on Friday, February 24th when they travel to Syracuse to face the Crunch. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs next home game is Friday, March 10th when the Manitoba Moose visit Copps Coliseum.
