February 19, 2006 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Barons News Release
ROCHESTER, NY -- Ryane Clowe and Matt Carkner each registered two points helping the Barons to a 4-2 win at Rochester on Sunday night. Dimitri Patzold earned his first win since January 7th with 22-saves and the Barons snapped a 13-game winless stretch with a game-winning goal from Lukas Kaspar.
In a defensive struggle the only difference in the opening frame was a short-handed goal by the Rochester Americans. Doug Janik's deflection goal came with just 1:58 remaining in the opening period as neither team converted on multiple power play chances. The Barons went 0 for 4 with the power play and were out-shot by Rochester 9-5.
Rochester's undisciplined play led to two second period goals by the Barons as the teams were tied 2-2 through forty minutes of action. Cory Murphy scored on a slap shot with the man-advantage to finally beat Amerks' goaltender Michael Leighton and get the Barons on the board. The goal by Murphy, his first at the AHL level in his 9-year career, was assisted by Josh Hennessy and Mike Iggulden. Steve Bernier then gave the Barons their first lead of the night with a power play goal, his 20th score of the year. Matt Carkner and Ryane Clowe assisted on the goal, which came 12:52 into the second period. Before the middle frame expired Rochester's Dan Focht scored his second goal of the season to tie the game at 2-2, beating Barons goaltender Dimitri Patzold with 5:11 remaining in the period.
The Barons snapped a 13 game winless streak with a game-winning goal from Lukas Kaspar, his 10th goal of the season. Tomas Plihal and Craig Valette assisted on the goal 5:32 into the period. The insurance goal came from Ryane Clowe, who potted his 12th of the year into an empty Rochester goal, with just 50-seconds remaining in the final period.
The Barons will play three more road contests before returning home on Friday, March 3 and Saturday, March 4 for back-to-back games against the Hamilton Bulldogs. Both home games begin at 7 o'clock and tickets are available now at the Quicken Loans Arena Box Office.
