Abbotsford Heat News Release

Hamilton, ON - The Hamilton Bulldogs got two powerplay goals in the third period, one the game-winner from Brad Winchester, to beat the Omaha Ak-Sar-Ben Knights 3-2 on Sunday afternoon at Copps Coliseum. The loss ended the Knights' five game win streak.

As with the previous night's game, this one was scoreless through the first period. The Bulldogs outshot the Knights, 7-5.

The Knights finally broke the deadlock early in the second period. While on the powerplay, Mark Giordano pumped a shot on goal. Netminder Olivier Michaud made the initial save, but he could not cover the rebound, and Dave Moss poked it home for his 15th goal of the year. It was his team-leading 13th powerplay goal.

The Bulldogs answered just 1:32 later. Francis Lemieux and Marc-Antoine Pouliot broke in two on one. Pouliot finished the play for his 12th goal of the year to even the game at one.

Hamilton took its first lead of the game 5:04 into the third period when Francis Lemieux rammed home a rebound for a powerplay goal to make it 2-1.

The Knights evened the game at two on an unlikely shot by Ajay Baines. He was being worked over in front of the Bulldogs' net by defenseman Andrew Archer but somehow managed to spin around and beat Michaud with a wrist shot. The goal was his second in as many games.

The game-winner came on another powerplay. Winchester got loose in the slot and beat Brent Krahn with a slap shot just inside the right post. The goal completed a three-point night for Winchester who had assists on the other two goals by Hamilton. Krahn made 32 saves in the loss.

The Knights are now 23-24-2-7. They continue East this week, visiting the Manchester Monarchs on Wednesday, February 22 at 6:00 p.m. All the action can be heard on 1420 AM KOTK and on the internet at omahaaksarbenknights.com.
