Breaking the game open early with seven runs in the second inning the Calgary Vipers (37-23) defeated the Chico Outlaws (27-30) 14-7 at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. At the plate Calgary was led by four players as Wilver Perez collected four hits and five runs batted in while Chad Ehrnsberger went three-for-three with four RBI. Jonny Kaplan also scored four times after four hits and Jimmy Rohan knocked in three while scoring twice. With the win the Vipers hold onto their three game lead atop the North Division standings.

Out of the bullpen Saskatoon's Dan Morari tossed a perfect seventh inning with a strikeout, Mike Burns threw a scoreless eighth, and Victoria's Henry Mabee pitched a scoreless ninth frame with two punchouts. Stephen Whalen (7-3) recorded the win by allowing five runs in five innings while Dave Whigham (0-2) took the loss after allowing 11 tallies in two and a third innings.

Calgary opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning when Jonny Kaplan doubled, stole third base, and scored on a Jimmy Rohan run batted in groundout for a 1-0 advantage.

The Vipers added to the lead in the second as Chad Ehrnsberger walked, Drew Miller singled, Stephen Whalen reached on a fielder's choice where a throwing error also allowed Ehrnsberger to score and Miller to be safe at second base, Kaplan doubled in one, Wilver Perez singled in one, Rohan doubled home two, C.J. Ziegler singled, Lino Garcia walked to load the bases, and Ehrnsberger knocked in two with a base hit for a seven-run inning and a 8-0 advantage.

Chico got a run back in the third frame when Dave Whigham and Kurt Steinhauer hit back-to-back doubles for a 8-1 score.

In the bottom of the third inning Calgary added to their lead as Whalen walked, Kaplan singled, Perez doubled home both, Rohan and Garcia walked to load the bases, and Ehrnsberger collected a sacrifice fly for a 11-1 lead.

The Outlaws responded in the fourth when Bobby Hill doubled, Chris Lubanski singled, Al Quintana knocked in a run with a base hit, Brian McFall scored a run with a groundout, and Adam Buchini hit a two run homer for a 11-5 game.

The Vipers got one run back in the bottom of the fourth frame as with two outs Kaplan singled and Perez doubled for a 12-5 advantage.

Chico got closer in the sixth inning when Quintana singled, McFall walked, Jonny Bravo singled to load the bases, and Steinhauer plated two with a base hit for a 12-7 score.

Calgary got another run back in seventh as Rohan doubled and Ehrnsberger singled for a RBI and a 13-7 lead.

Another run was added in the eighth frame when Bryan Burke doubled and scored on a Perez RBI single for a 14-7 advantage.

This series against the Chico Outlaws at Foothills Stadium in Calgary continues on Friday July 29th at 6:30 where it will be Christmas in July Night with Food Bank Donations being accepted, Dave the Horn Guy will perform on Saturday July 30th at 5:05, and on Sunday July 31st at 1:35 it will be 9-Inning Giveaway Day.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USSSA Florida Pride and the NPF Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
