
Big Second Inning Dooms Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners allowed three home runs in an eight run top of the second inning that led the San Angelo Colts to a 13-6 victory Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium.
The Colts (37-20) got on the scoreboard in the top of the second after scoring eight runs on six hits. San Angelo used home runs from Ronnie Gaines, Vic Ferrante, and Mark Ramos taking the 8-0 lead.
The Roadrunners (24-36) got on the board in the bottom of the third against Colts starter Chandler Barnard. Three straight hits loaded the bases for Osiel Flores who then hit an RBI single to center field that allowed D.J. Dixon to score. Robert Matlock then followed with a two-run single that made it 8-3 San Angelo.
Barnard (8-2) picked up his eighth win after pitching six innings and allowing three runs on 10 hits and striking out seven.
The score remained the same until the top of the eighth when the Colts added four more runs. Daryl Jones led the inning off with a solo home run. Later in the inning, Trey Carter hit a two-run triple and then came into score on a wild pitch that extended their lead 12-3.
In the bottom of the eighth, R.J. Harris hit an RBI single that allowed Derek Marshall to score from second. Then a fielding error allowed Jonathan Fernandez and Harris to score making it 12-6 Colts.
After San Angelo added a run in the top of the ninth to make 13-6, Chace Vacek closed out the bottom of the ninth giving the Colts the 13-6 victory.
