Wiltshire Shines as Diablos Cruise

Greg Wiltshire threw seven innings allowing just one hit as the El Paso Diablos out lasted the Lincoln Salt Dogs 5-1 on Tuesday night.

El Paso got off to a hot start in the bottom of the first against Nathan Staggs. The Diablos scored three runs off of three hits. Jorge Alvarez, Juan Camacho, and Matt Kent all had RBI's in the frame.

The Diablos stretched the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Watler Olmstead had a one out double. Jordan Belcher plated Olmstead with an RBI single.

Greg Wiltshire threw six full innings without allowing a base hit. In that span, Wiltshire allowed just three runners on base, off of two walks and a throwing error on Juan Camacho at third base.

Greg Wiltshire's no-hit bid was shut down in the top of the seventh inning. After retiring the first two Salt Dogs Bret Cooley lined a single through the right side for the first base hit of the Salt Dogs night. Wiltshire would retire Josh Patton on a ground out to maintain the shut-out bid. El Paso scored another run in the bottom of the seventh on a Jorge Alvarez RBI single.

The Salt Dogs reached the scoreboard in the top of the eighth. Seth Peach was hit by a Greg Wiltshire to lead off the inning. Peach would move to second on a wild pitch. Joe Dempsey picked up a run-scoring single two batters later as the Salt Dogs would cut the deficit to 5-1.

Dustin Cameron threw two scoreless innings of relief for the Diablos. Cameron retired three consecutive Salt Dogs with the bases loaded in the eighth inning.

Greg Wiltshire (11-4) threw seven innings allowing just one earned run off of one hit with three walks and four strikeouts.

Nathan Staggs (1-3) tossed seven innings allowing five earned runs off of eight hits with one walk and eight strikeouts.

The Diablos will take on the Lincoln Salt Dogs for in the series finale on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM from Cohen Stadium. Robbie Wachman will face off against Brian Campbell. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com with Jon Barr on the call.
