Fort Worth Cats News Release

The Aviators had a chance to get an early lead Tuesday night in Fort Worth but couldn't cash in. The Cats put up back to back homeruns in the first by Kelly Gulledge and Carlos Adolfo and Fort Worth won the second game of a three game set 4-1.

Brian Fryer led off the game with a triple to right field but was stranded there when subsequent batters did not hit the ball out of the infield. Kevin Hull allowed four earned runs in 7 innings, but managed to keep his team in the game. With runners at second and third in the seventh, he walked Gulledge to load the bases before Adolfo singled up the middle for a 4-1 Cats lead. He got of the jam with a force out and a strikeout to keep the game within reach.

In the ninth, Grant RIchardson led off with a single and Stephen Morales drew a walk. Coastal Bend just missed tying the game up, but Matt Spencer's drive down the left field line went just foul. Spencer was called out on strikes later in the at bat and was ejected for arguing with the home plate umpire. The game ended when Phillip Grau lined hard to third and pinch runner Steve Ketter was double off first.

The Aviators had limited success all night against Fort Worth hurlers Nick Martin and Ryan Burnau, managing just 5 hits. The one offensive highlight for Coastal Bend was the first homerun of the season by second baseman Will Lewis. He launched a shot to left field that just stayed fair in the top of the seventh that cut the lead to 3-1.

The loss snapped the Aviators three game win streak and their record now stands at 8-14 in the second half. Fort Worth improved to 16-8 and continue to lead the South Division. Game three of the series is tomorrow night at 7:05pm and can be heard locally on KOPY 1070 AM and online.
