Indianapolis Indians News Release

INDIANAPOLIS -- Designated hitter Craig Wilson belted two home runs and collected three RBI while SS Jorge Velandia and 1B Brad Eldred each chipped in by knocking in two runs as Indianapolis topped Charlotte, 8-3, Friday night in front of 12,698 at Victory Field. The Indians, who have registered 10 or more hits in 10 of their last 12 games, improve to 51-37 with the win. The Knights fall to 30-58 on the season.

Charlotte started the scoring with a solo homer by 3B Leo Daigle in the top of the second.

Indianapolis then plated three runs in the home half of the fifth to take the lead. C Ronny Paulino reached on a Knights' miscue and LF Nate McLouth was hit by a pitch before both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. 2B Alfredo Amezaga followed with an infield single to score Paulino. After Amezaga stole second, Velandia smacked a two-run double to right field.

The Indians pushed across two more runs in the sixth. 3B Ty Wigginton walked before Wilson sent his first homer of the game over the left-field fence.

The Knights plated two runs in the seventh. CF Brian Anderson and RF Joe Borchard knocked back-to-back doubles to score the first run. Borchard then advanced to third on a single by Daigle and scored when Indianapolis turned a 4-6-3 double play.

Indianapolis scored three insurance runs in the eighth. Wilson led off with a solo home run to left. Paulino, who now owns a 10-game hitting streak, then singled to left before Eldred blasted a line-drive home run over the 418 sign in left center.

Tribe starter RHP Chris Enochs (6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB, 0 SO) earned the victory, improving to 3-1. Charlotte southpaw Arnie Munoz (6.1 IP, 7 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO) was pinned with the loss, falling to 3-10.

Indians relievers LHP Mike Johnston (2.0 IP, 1 BB) and RHP Brian Reith (1.0 IP, 1 H, 2 SO) combined to throw three innings of one-hit relief.

Indianapolis returns to Victory Field Saturday night at 7 p.m. when it takes on Durham in the first game of a two game series. The contest will be carried by ESPN-950 AM as Howard Kellman and Robert Portnoy have the call. Saturday's pre-game show begins at 6:40 p.m.
