CHARLESTON, S.C. - Tyler Wilson authored 6.0 shutout innings to headline the Greenville Drive's 5-2 win over the Charleston RiverDogs in South Atlantic League action Thursday night in front of a crowd of 4,009 fans at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Greenville took three out of four with the win in improving to 33-27 and 71-59, while Charleston regressed to 24-36 and 50-80.

Charleston's Shane Greene (4-13) and Wilson (3-3) matched zeroes for the first two frames, but the Drive erupted for four runs to assume a 4-0 advantage in the top of the third. All four markers came across with two outs.

With two outs and nobody on, Matty Johnson walked to extend the inning. Drew Hedman singled and Xander Bogaerts was issued a free pass to load the bases. Greene then continued to struggle with his control, walking Henry Ramos to force in a run. Michael Almanzar was next, and smacked a three-run double off the left field wall for a 4-0 Greenville cushion.

Greene settled in to work 6.0 innings, yielding the four runs on six hits and five walks while fanning seven for the second consecutive start.

Kelvin Perez was greeted rudely out of the RiverDogs bullpen in the seventh, as the Drive tacked on an insurance run for a 5-0 lead on a RBI double by Bogaerts over the head of Ramon Flores in left field.

Wilson turned in one of his better performances of the season for Billy McMillon's Greenville squad, authoring 6.0 spotless frames. The Rome, Georgia native scattered three hits and two walks, striking out two along the way.

The RiverDogs squeaked out a run to get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the eighth against Justin Erasmus. Jeff Farnham ripped a double to the right-center field alley, and came across the plate on a Shane Brown RBI single to whittle the deficit to 5-1.

Mike Ferraro tattooed his first home run of the season just inside the right field foul pole to make the score 5-2, but that was as close as Charleston would get as Dennis Neuman finished out the win to give Greenville the series victory.

BALLPARK FUN: The always-popular Go Back to Ohio Night made its return, as fans donned Buckeye state-related apparel as part of a zany promotion that has become a RiverDogs staple. If that was not enough, the RiverDogs turned The Joe into a club scene with $1 beers in the Ashley View Pub and fresh music courtesy of the stylings of DJ Natty Heavy on the second-to-last Budweiser Thirsty Thursday of the campaign.

UP NEXT: The RiverDogs meet up with another rival as they travel to Savannah to face off against the first place Sand Gnats. Right-hander Mike Gipson (0-2, 5.84 ERA) is scheduled to take the ball for Charleston, versus southpaw Angel Cuan (10-3, 3.50 ERA) of the New York Mets affiliate.

The RiverDogs return to Riley Park on Thursday, September 1 to entertain the Asheville Tourists in the first of a five-game series that will put a ribbon on the 2011 campaign. The final Military Appreciation Night of the year will honor local service men and women, as a flyover kicks off the festivities. On the field, the RiverDogs will suit up in Digi-Camo jerseys to be auctioned off after the game to benefit the Ralph Johnson V.A. DJ Natty Heavy will once again add to the ambiance by providing music in the Ashley View Pub as fans savor $1 beers on the final Budweiser Thirsty Thursday of the year.
