KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (July 2, 2012) - The Kannapolis Intimidators, Class A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox, have promoted Ross Wilson to the Winston-Salem Dash, the Sox Class A-Advanced affiliate. In corresponding moves, the Intimidators have received infielder Joey DeMichele from Advanced Rookie Bristol and signed left-handed pitcher Max Peterson.
Wilson, 23, hit .277 (67-242) with a team-leading seven home runs and 33 RBI in 64 games with the Intimidators this season. He is currently tied for seventh in the South Atlantic League with a .409 on-base percentage. He split his time between second base and left field with Kannapolis. Earlier this season, Wilson set career highs with three home runs and eight RBI, including a go-ahead grand slam in the ninth inning, in an Intimidators 9-5 win at Augusta on April 27. The White Sox selected Wilson in the 10th round of the June 2010 First Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama where he earned All-SEC honors as a sophomore in 2009. Wilson graduated from Hoover (Ala.) High School where he was featured on MTV's "Two-A-Days" as his school's quarterback.
DeMichele, 21, joins Kannapolis from the Bristol White Sox where he hit .348 (16-46) with two home runs, nine RBI, four doubles and three triples in 12 games in the Appalachian League this season. The White Sox selected DeMichele in the third round (108th overall) of the June 2012 First Year Player Draft out of Arizona State. In 2011 at ASU, he hit .368 with nine home runs and 48 RBI and was named Pacific-10 Conference All-Star DH, 3rd Team College All-American DH, and the MVP of the Tempe Regional of the College World Series. He is the first player of the White Sox 2012 draft class to join Kannapolis.
Peterson, 24, spent the past three seasons in the Oakland Athletics farm system, going 9-9 with a 4.39 ERA (61 ER/125 IP) in 80 career games (one start). The A's drafted him in the 18th round of the June 2009 First Year Player Draft out of San Jose State. Peterson spent last season between Class A Burlington and Class A-Advanced Stockton, going 3-3 with a 5.32 ERA in 26 games.
