Wilson homer leads Z's past Sounds 2-1

New Orleans Baby Cakes News Release

Neil Wilson's solo home run with two out in the bottom of the seventh lifted the New Orleans Zephyrs past the Nashville Sounds 2-1 on Saturday night, evening the clubs' season-ending series at one win apiece.

Wilson launched the first pitch he saw from Nashville reliever Chris Waters over the wall in left-center field, his sixth home run of the season and second in as many games against the Sounds.

The home run made a winner of Brett Sinkbeil (3-3), who worked out of a two on, one out jam in the top of the inning. Zephyrs starter Tom Mastny held Nashville scoreless through the first five innings before allowing a run in the sixth on a Joe Koshansky RBI single.

Sounds starting pitcher Josh Butler matched Mastny much of the night, as the teams combined for four hits through the first four innings. New Orleans broke through in the fourth, after John Raynor led off with a bunt single and Mike Lamb walked, and after a force out moved Raynor to third, he scored on a sacrifice fly by Danny Richar.

Koshansky's tying single in the sixth was Nashville's third hit of the inning, the only inning where either team managed more than one hit.

Brian Barden extended his hitting streak to 20 games with a two-out single in the sixth, giving him the third-longest hitting streak in the Pacific Coast League this season. He can tie the season long of 22, set by Iowa's Micah Hoffpauir, with hits in each of the Zephyrs' final two games.

The Z's and Sounds meet again on Sunday night at 6:00 p.m., Fan Appreciation Night at Zephyr Field. Left-handers will square off as the Zephyrs send Wes Whisler (3-6, 5.90) against Nashville's Chase Wright (7-8, 4.94).
