Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - Andy Van Hekken carried a shutout into the eighth inning, and Collin DeLome provided three RBI as the Round Rock Express defeated the Albuquerque Isotopes 6-2 in Saturday night's action at The Dell Diamond. The Express (57-85) have won each of the first two games of the series and eliminated the Isotopes (70-71) from playoff contention with Saturday's win. The season series is tied 7-7.
In a script similar to the one Shane Loux followed for a complete-game shutout of Albuquerque in Friday night's series opener, Van Hekken (8-8) rebounded from his least effective outing of the season for a dominate performance against the Isotopes. He allowed six hits and no walks with six strikeouts over 8.0 innings. The lone run Van Hekken allowed came on Chin-Iung Hu's leadoff homer in the eighth.
Meanwhile, the Express bats made the most of opportunities against Albuquerque knuckleballer Charlie Haeger (4-3). Round Rock scored three of its six runs on plays other than hits. The first two runs came in the fourth on a Drew Locke RBI groundout and a DeLome sacrifice fly.
DeLome doubled the Express lead with a two-run triple in the sixth; Matt Kata followed with an RBI double. John Curtis walked to open the seventh and later scored on Oswaldo Navarro's sacrifice fly.
Albuquerque scratched for an unearned run on a pair of hits and an Express error in the ninth.
Haeger allowed five runs, four earned, on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
J.B. Schuck was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored, while Navarro was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Curtis walked twice in his first action with the Express.
Hu had three of Albuquerque's eight hits, also producing a double and a single in four at bats. Trent Oeltjen was 2-for-4.
Round Rock and Albuquerque continue their four-game series Sunday with a 6:05 p.m. CDT first pitch at The Dell Diamond. Right-hander Jordan Lyles (0-2, 5.40 ERA) is scheduled to toe the rubber for the Express, while right-hander Edgar Gonzalez (0-1, 6.23 ERA) is slated to go for the Isotopes.
