Aces Rally Late To Push Past Bees, 6-5
September 4, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.- Playing the role of spoiler, the Reno Aces tied the score in the eighth before pushing across the go-ahead run in the ninth to down the Salt Lake Bees, 6-5, Saturday night at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
The Bees, who entered play on Saturday one-half game back of the division lead in the Pacific North with three to play, scored in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings to take a 5-4 lead into the eighth. In that eighth frame, Carlos Corporan singled, advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt, moved to third on an error and eventually scored the tying run on a Doug Deeds sacrifice fly. One inning later, with the game knotted at five runs apiece, Eric Groff walked and advanced to second on another Bees error. Cole Gillespie promptly singled up the middle, chasing home Groff with the eventual game-winner.
Aces starter Bryan Augenstein allowed five runs on 13 hits over six innings of work, not figuring into the decision. Out of the bullpen, Brett Moorhouse made his triple-A debut with a scoreless seventh inning, and Jason Urquidez (5-4) finished the proceedings by retiring the Bees in order over the game's final two frames to earn the win.
The loss fell to Salt Lake reliever Ryan Houston (0-1), who surrendered the go-ahead unearned run in the ninth.
At the dish for Reno, Gillespie notched a double and a pair of singles, scoring twice and driving in two more runs. Drew Macias continued to swing a hot bat, finishing two-for-five on the night.
The series continues on Sunday afternoon from Spring Mobile Ballpark. RHP Andrew Berger (0-0, No ERA) earns the start for the Aces, making his Triple-A debut. RHP Amalio Diaz (4-6, 5.87 ERA) counters for the Bees. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. PT. All the action can be heard live on Fox Sports Radio 1450 in Reno or by visiting www.RenoAces.com.
Full- and partial-season tickets are available now by calling the Reno Aces at (775) 334-4700 or by visiting RenoAces.com. The brand-new Freight House District, located just outside Aces Ballpark, is open seven days a week throughout the offseason.
