RiverCats Rough Up Sky Sox 16-9

September 4, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Colorado Springs Sky Sox News Release

The Sacramento RiverCats scored eight runs in the first inning and held on for a 16-9 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox on Saturday evening at Security Service Field in front of 5,181 fans.

Starter Josh Muecke (6-9) didn't make it out of the first inning for the Sky Sox as he gave up all eight runs on eight hits in just 0.1 innings pitched. The first five RiverCats reached base and scored in the inning with both Corey Wimberly and Eric Sogard recording two hits in the inning.

On the night, every Sacramento player had at least one hit and one run scored. Wimberly finished the night 3-for-6 with a double, a triple and five RBI while Corey Brown finished a double short of the cycle.

Colorado Springs would try and mount a comeback in the final innings and erupted for seven runs in the seventh. The Sky Sox batted around in the inning and sent 11 men to the plate. Brad Eldred launched his 30th homer of the season in the inning, a three-run shot, and Mike Paulk followed him up with a solo blast of his own. Eldred's 30th homer makes him just the sixth Sky Sox player to have at least 30 homers in a single season. Unfortunately, the offensive outburst wasn't enough as the RiverCats bullpen was able to close out the game and keep the Sox off the board in the eighth and ninth innings.

Travis Banwart (4-2) picked up the win for Sacramento after giving up just two runs on six hits over six innings.

Game three of the four-game series is set for tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 PM as the Sox send out rehabbing left Jeff Francis (No Record) to face LH Bobby Cramer (2-2, 1.82). Francis is expected to throw about 50 pitches.
