Frederick Keys News Release

Anything you can do I can do better. The Keys pitching staff has been living by that motto over the last two days as right-handers Tyler Wilson and David Walters combined for the Keys second consecutive shutout win in a 5-0 series opening victory in Carolina. The shutout effort make 21 consecutive innings in which the Keys have not allowed a run.

Wilson (3-3) set the tone facing 22 batters to get 21 outs. His seven inning effort came after consecutive losses to Lynchburg. The bouceback start was the longest start by a Keys pitcher this year eclipsing the 6 and 2/3rd inning thrown by LHP Rick Zagone on May 1st against Myrtle Beach.

The Keys grabbed the lead for Wilson on an RBI-ground out by SS Garabez Rosa in the 5th innng. Frederick opened it up in the sixth inning. 3B Travis Adair laid down a bunt single to lead off the inning. 2B Ty Kelly lined a single into right field and then the red-hot Aaron Baker homered to left-center field making it a 4-0 Keys lead.

Baker has homered four times in the last five games and five times in the last eight. He now is the Carolina League leader with 14 home runs on the year.

That was enough for Wilson who need just 73 pitches to make his way through seven innings. He gave way to RHP David Walters, who still has not allowed a run in June, for the last two innings. When Walters got a game ending double play ball the Keys had shut out Carolina having faced 28 batters, just one over the minimum.

The series continues with RHP Kyle Simon on the hill. First pitch at Carolina is 7:15 p.m. with coverage beginning 20-minutes earlier on 1450-AM The Source.

Frederick returns home Sunday, July 1st for Zoo Night featuring animals from the Catoctin Zoo. Their will be a camel, bald eagle, baby alligators and a dove release amongst other things. For tickets contact the Keys at 301-815-9939 or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
