WINSTON-SALEM, NC (June 24, 2012) - The Dash were stifled at the plate Sunday afternoon, falling 7-0 to Salem in game one of a four-game series.

Red Sox starter Brandon Workman held a potent Dash offense silent in seven innings of work. The right-hander scattered two hits and did not allow a run while striking out three. Michael Gleason delivered two perfect innings in relief as Salem faced only one more than the minimum at the plate.

A night after racking up a season-high 16 runs and 20 hits, Winston-Salem (1-3, 45-28-1) was held to a season-low two on Sunday. A Miguel Gonzalez single in the third inning and a Juan Silverio single in the sixth inning were the only hits. The Dash did not have a runner reach second base in the game.

Salem (1-3, 42-31-1) jumped out to a lead with three runs in the third inning. Travis Shaw singled home a run before Xander Bogaerts took a ball over the left-field wall for a 3-0 advantage.

Shaw and Bogaerts represented the Carolina League All-Stars at BB&T Ballpark last Tuesday, and the return trip treated them well. Shaw had a towering blast into right field during the All-Star Game and crushed a solo home run to nearly the same spot in the fifth inning to extend the Red Sox lead to 4-0.

Salem pushed two more runs across in the seventh on a two-run single by Heiker Meneses. In the ninth, an RBI single by Christian Vazquez scored Shaw and capped the scoring.

The Dash look to take game two of the four-game series Monday night when right-hander Matt Heidenreich (6-2, 4.19 ERA) gets the ball. Salem counters with righty Miguel Celestino (5-2, 3.06 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00.
