Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, Class A-Advanced affiliate of the Texas Rangers, just love hitting against Lynchburg Hillcats starter Gus Schlosser. The Carolina League's leader with eight wins, Schlosser has now allowed 33% of his runs against Myrtle Beach after a five run, six inning outing Sunday. The Pelicans rolled to a 5-1, series opening victory.
Myrtle Beach jumped all over the Floridian right hander early, scoring four runs before the game's first out. Odubel Herrera led off with a double to the right field corner, followed by an infield single from Hanser Alberto and an error to put Christian Villanueva on and score Herrera. It was 1-0, setting the table for a Brett Nicholas three run homerun to right, his third of the season for a 4-0 lead.
The Pelicans tacked on another run in the third with doubles from Alberto and Nicholas. The Pelicans catcher finished the night with four knocked in. It was 5-1 after that.
Lynchburg was only able to muster one unearned run against Pelicans starter Randol Rojas. The righty went a career long seven innings, allowing the one run on four hits and three walks. Despite the walks, Rojas only used 70 pitches to navigate the night. The outing also brings his streak of innings without an earned run to an incredible 17.1 frames.
The win moves Myrtle Beach to 3-1 to open the second half and halts a season best seven game winning streak for the Hillcats. The two teams wrangle again Monday at 7:05. JR Graham throws for the Pelicans against Luke Jackson for Myrtle Beach. For more information visit online at MyrtleBeachPelicans.com.
