Wilmington Rocks Cats Early to Take Series Lead

A six-run second inning by Wilmington propelled the Blue Rocks to an 8-5 win over Lynchburg on Wednesday night at Frawley Stadium.

Lynchburg struck early on Wednesday night as they plated three runs in the top of the first to take the early lead. Alex Buchholz plated a pair with a two-out double in the frame.

Wilmington though would score the next eight runs to take an 8-3 lead. After a run in the first inning, six more runs would come across in the second inning to give the Blue Rocks their first advantage of the night. Anthony Seratelli had the big hit in that inning, a bases clearing double with two outs. An inning later Rey Navarro singled in another run to give the Blue Rocks an 8-3 lead.

The Hillcats would chip away at that advantage in the fourth inning with a pair of runs to trim the lead down to three at 8-5. Devin Mesoraco singled in a run in the inning and Neftali Soto brought in a run with a ground out.

The win went to reliever Harold Mozingo (1-0) and the save to Patrick Keating (3) for Wilmington (13-20) and the loss went to starter Curtis Partch (1-3) for Lynchburg (15-18). The final game of the four-game series is slated for 6:35 p.m. on Thursday night at Frawley Stadium. Right-hander Brad Boxberger (3-2, 2.20) will head to the hill for the Hillcats opposite lefty Chris Dwyer (1-2, 3.77) for the Blue Rocks.
